Everybody needs somebody (3)
'As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens...his friend' Proverbs 27:17
Every single town high street has one. The weird busker bloke sitting there with a thousand instruments strapped to every orifice. A mouth organ wrapped round his gob, a bass drum by his size tens, a guitar nestled to his coat, and a pair of cymbals tied like a backpack. He calls it a one-man-band, but it sounds more like a loose fan-belt. Wouldn't he be just better off joining fellow looneys and forming a band.
What if The Beatles or Girls Aloud was one strange bloke, chewing on a pasty, and banging out a racket with every available limb- how many albums would they have sold then? To make beautiful music, it's better to share out the instruments, share out the parts. Singer Bono said this: 'I would be terrified to be on my own as a solo singer...I surround myself with...a band...you're only as good as the arguments you get. So maybe the reason why the band hasn't split up is that people might get this: even though I'm only one quarter of U2, I'm more than I could be if I was one whole of something else.'
Solomon says something similar: 'As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens...his friend' (Proverbs 27:17 NKJV). Don't you get it yet? There's something about coming together with other people, if we want to create something beautiful.
