Eat the Word (2)
'...My words will by no means pass away.' Mark 13:31
Some recipes just can't be improved upon. You don't melt a mars bar on top of fish and chips. You don't add curry sauce to a big mac. You don't do an ice cream any favours by dipping it in salt. They are all recipes that need no updating.
The Word of God is the same. 'Heaven and earth will pass away, but My Words will by no means pass away.' When we eat the Word we get tried and tested, 100% pure perfection. No added preservatives or any of that junk. We get a diet that we know will do us good. Joshua says: '"Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night...do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful"' (Joshua 1:8 NIV). In other words: Eat, drink and be merry.
Note how he says 'meditate' on it. Meditation is when we allow our brains to have a good chew on God's word. Watch how your Alsatian can get the most out of his chewed up little bone, how much more can we get when we chew over God's wisdom. Note, also, the word, 'success'. Any athlete wishing for Olympic glory watches what they push through their face. Paula Radcliffe wouldn't get far on a kebab, and neither will you. To stay the distance you need regular helpings of the Word.
