Dragon's Den

'...each according to his ability.' Matthew 25:15

One of the stories Jesus tells is a bit like the TV programme Dragon's Den; it's all about investing in people who've got ideas about how to turn a little into a lot. In Jesus' story though there's only one dragon who decides to invest money in three different people. They weren't all given the same amount, they were given, 'each according to his ability.'

As the story unfolds we are impacted by a scary truth: God only gives what you have the ability to handle. Why is that scary? Because it means if you don't make the most of what God gives you it's not like you can go back to Him making excuses like, 'Well, I got the jitters so I decided to do nothing.' That won't wash. It's tough but it is the truth at the heart of this story. The first guy doubled his. The second did the same. They both got big fat promotions as a reward. But the third caved in to fear and buried his cash in a hole. What did he get in return for that? He got his butt kicked that's what. Message?

When you fail to use what God gives you, He's not impressed and you lose the rewards you would have enjoyed. Listen, fear of failure is not of God. That's why you need to ask Him for the gift of faith; today and every day.
