Cornflakes and God

'...in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation.' Psalm 5:3

Start your day off smacking the snooze button on your alarm for the umpteenth time. When it doesn't stop buzzing in your brain, throw the wretched thing at the wall. Shout obscenities at your poor old Mum, when she does her best to wrestle the duvet off you. Burn your toast and spill your coffee down your school uniform as you scribble down bits of unfinished homework in between watching the telly and listening to Chris Moyles. Start your day off like that and is it any wonder you're fit for a panic attack before you've even caught the school bus? The way we get up can set the mood for the rest of the day.

What if, tomorrow, you were to set your alarm 20 minutes earlier? What if, the first thing you did was say, 'Morning God, thanks for the night's kip and thanks for a new day, help me find the beauty in this morning, and help me not embarrass myself or your name by my attitude today. Amen'. Try it. Note down any differences about your day. See if your worries are put into perspective. Can starting your day with God alter the way you close your day with God? Tomorrow morning, sprinkle this Scripture on your cornflakes: 'Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days (Psalm 90:14 NIV).

Sadly, these Christians were in danger of hardening their hearts against God’s voice, refusing to believe and obey. They doubted or rejected God’s promises and warnings. The result would be hardened hearts as had happened in the past when God’s people had also rebelled against Him.
The same is still true. We have a choice - to rebel against God’s word resulting in a hardened heart, or to respond to God’s word with a joyful and obedient heart. How will you respond to what God has said in Living Light this week?

Faithful Lord, thank You that You speak to your people. Help me to hear Your voice and to respond quickly to all You say, for Jesus’ sake. Amen.
