'HOLD ON TO INSTRUCTION...GUARD IT WELL, FOR IT IS YOUR LIFE.' PROVERBS 4:13
Phil was gutted, he was parked up on the side of a country road with a flat tyre. The battery had just died on his phone and it was at least an hour walk to the nearest village. There he could use a pay phone to call the AA only to walk for another hour to get back to his car. Phil was kicking himself. Last week his dad had shown him how to change a tyre but Phil was too busy texting Zoe, anyway it looked easy. Now he couldn't remember what his Dad had taught him, it had gone in one ear and out the other. Phil's dad had moaned when he could tell that Phil was more into his mobile than the spare wheel. 'One day you'll thank me for showing you this' he said. At the time Phil had thought 'whatever'; now his dad's words echoed in his mind along with one other word; 'D'OH!!!'
King Solomon, the writer of Proverbs, tells his son 'hold on to instruction...guard it well'. Its great advice for life. The best way to be prepared for tomorrow is to pay attention to what's going on today especially when it comes to your walk with God. God wants to get you spiritually ready for what's coming. Bible studies, sermons; whatever it is, write some notes, talk about it with mates, but don't forget it.
