Back at square one
'..."Throw your net on the right side..."' John 21:6
Have you ever had an amazing day, a day when everything went right, when you were totally in the zone, a day you hoped would never end? And then you woke up the next morning and everything was plain and ordinary and boring again. Why is life like that?
The four gospels all give us a different angle on the life of Jesus and, especially when it comes to the events after His resurrection, they all pick out different details we have to stitch together. We know this: Jesus rose from the dead, met Mary Magdalene first and later that day appeared to the 11 disciples. But then, maybe a week or so after that, they went back to what they were doing before they met Him: fishing.
After something massive has happened we can crave the simplicity and security of what we know, we end up like the disciples: back at square one. But there's good news: If God called you, you're still called. Jesus shouts to the guys from the shore giving them identical instructions to the very first day He met them (Luke 5).
Once again an ordinary day is touched with the extraordinary as Jesus steps into the scene. That morning Jesus ate breakfast with them, chatted with them, encouraged them and reminded them that they should always be ready to be interrupted by a visit from the Master.
