Wedding Bells (4)

'Marriage should be honoured by all' Hebrews 13:9

If you think marriage looks more like a field of battle than a bed of roses, then you're not far from the truth. Even Jesus spells out the 'rough' over the 'romance'; listen: 'Not everyone is mature enough to live a married life. It requires a certain aptitude and grace ... but if you're capable of growing into the largeness of marriage, do it' (Matt. 19:11-12 TM).

What does he mean by 'largeness' and what can we learn about grace through marriage? Loving others; whether it's our hubby, girlfriend, mate or family, it is an invitation to grow as a God-loving person. See, no matter what your relationship status on Facebook says, you are still called to be a lover! 1 Peter 4:8 says, 'Most of all, love each other as if your life depended on it. Love makes up for practically anything'(TM).

When two people live together, they're face to face with all the peculiarities and downright unlovable stuff about each other. Without a large dose of grace and a quickness of apology the two will end up throwing kitchen appliances at one another.

Love always looks for the best even when the best seems to have gone AWOL. Inspired by God's love for us we too should look for the best in others. All relationships have the capacity for love, hate, excitement, disappointment, passion, boredom, healing, hurt, selfishness, selflessness. The largeness of love asks you to look for the best - always.
