Wait For It
'Get rid of the slave woman and her son' Galatians 4:30
'Hurry up!' How many times have you blurted that at someone? 'Hurry up and get out the bathroom!', 'Hurry up I'm going to be late!', 'Hurry up, you're taking too long!'. We can even stand in a fast-food queue thinking, 'Hurry up, I'm starving!' Waiting is nobody's strong point. When we want stuff it's always, 'now!'
What about when you pray - do you find yourself getting impatient when God hasn't got your prayer sorted in five minutes? Do you shout 'Hurry up, God!'; or worse, do you take matters into your own hands when your patience runs out? God says, 'Get rid of the slave woman and her son.' But before you go shoving your Auntie Ethel and cousin in a bin bag, let's understand what God's saying here.
This bit of the Bible is reminding us of a time when a guy called Abraham tried to hurry up God's plans and as a result caused him and his family a lot of grief. Hurrying God up is never a good idea; waiting for Him to 'call the shots' saves us from unnecessary upset.
It is said that some people dream of worthy achievement, while others stay awake and experience it. Which will you do? Live out God's great plans in His timing or dream about what that must be like? Jesus said: 'I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of' (John 10:10 TM).
