'...Let God transform you into a new person...' Romans 12:2
If you're always out to win popularity points, you could find yourself easy prey for peer pressure! If you're a people-pleaser you could be on your way to ruining your reputation!
Cultivating conformity could result in a character catastrophe! Psalm 37:5 says, 'Let the Lord lead you and trust him to help.' We're meant to be God led not people led. We're meant to be followers of Jesus not followers of our friends.
Now don't be panicking, thinking God doesn't want you to have friends; He's not asking you to become Billy No-mates. But He is saying '...don't become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking.
Instead, fix your attention on God. You'll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what He wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you' (Romans 12:2TM).
When we are a follower of Jesus, we have God's Spirit living in us, giving the power to transform. 1 John 4:4 says, 'you belong to God, my dear children ... the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world' (NLT).
God doesn't ask about our ability, or our inability, but about our availability. Are you available to let God transform you?
