Thirsty for God
'...My soul thirsts for You ... in a ... land where there is no water' Psalm 63:1
It's a hot summer's day. Your tongue is sticking to the roof of your mouth, you're virtually spitting feathers, so what do you do? Waltz in to the kitchen, grab a glass, and turn on the tap and hey presto: lovely cool drinking water.
No big deal, simple isn't it? But walk up a hill on a hot summer's day without enough H2O and your body will let you know about it! It's the condition most commonly known as thirst.
David wrote about being thirsty in Psalm 63 when he was in the Desert of Judah, but he needed more than Volcanicity, 'Earnestly I seek you, my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water.'
His enemies were pressing in on him and he cries out, 'Where are you God?' Ever been there? Wondering if God's taking a coffee break rather than answering your call? Just as physical thirst is your body's way of telling you that you need water, there's a spiritual thirst that only God can quench. And He will!
'When you come looking for me, you'll find me. Yes, when you get serious about finding me and want it more than anything else, I'll make sure you won't be disappointed' (Jeremiah. 29:13 TM).
But you have to give God the time, space and the opportunity to do so. Half-hearted efforts won't cut it. Don't dehydrate, drink from the fountain of life!
