The Fear (1)

'...The word of the Lord came to Abram ... saying, "Do not be afraid"..' Genesis 15:1

You're sitting watching a horror film... the tension builds, there's a blood-curdling scream. You bury your face in the nearest cushion, gripping hold of the person sitting next to you, unable to release your Vulcan death grip as adrenaline shoots through your body. You're too frightened to look, too scared to move, willing the film to reach its horrific end, so you can get back to normality.

Even in entertainment, fear is not something we want to last for long. It's the suspense in a horror film - not knowing what's going to happen from one minute to the next - that builds the fear factor.

Similarly, fear can build in our own lives when things change, when our situation becomes uncertain, when things happen around us that are out of our control, when we are trying something new, or going somewhere different, the fear factor can hit us.

In Genesis 12:1 God asked Abraham to make some scary life changes: 'Leave your country, your family, and your father's home for a land that I will show you'.

Whenever God asks us to change, the fear factor can hit us. But He understands this and so just as He reassured Abraham thousands of years ago, He reassures us today: '...Do not be afraid..."'I am your shield, your very great reward' (Genesis 15:1 NIV).

God is your unfailing, inexhaustible, ever-increasing supply source. Awesome! You don't have to go to anybody else for protection or provision; God has you covered. There's nothing to fear.
