Staple Outfit

People can do crazy things for the people they love. Fans of celebrities love to dress like them... 'Ooh, I just love Lady Gaga! She's my idol! I just spent a fortune in the butchers 'cos I really wanted to have a go at making that meat dress. It was great! I felt just like her. Should have stayed standing up though. It totally ruined my sofa. The smell of beef's got right in the polyester.'
What is it to clothe ourselves in God? 'Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience' (Hebrews 12:1 NIV).
Those for whom Jesus is an idol should clothe themselves and their attitudes in a way that won't leave a stink. Being a Christian means we have been chosen to be God's ambassadors. This means we are His representatives to the people around us. We should wear love like a staple outfit, a must have. Loving in all circumstances takes knowing a loving God.
There are times when loving can seem impossible. But we are not called to do this alone. 'Walk with me and work with me - watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't let anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly' (Matthews 11:29-30 TM).
