'If you are displeased, I will go back' Numbers 22:34
Not many can resist the adorable Donkey from the Shrek movies. But did you know that Shrek wasn't the first to hear a talking donkey? That privilege was given to Balaam. He was a prophet who told people what God was saying, believing that he must obey God, no matter what. One time, people from Moab asked Balaam for help and God made it very clear that what they were asking wasn't right, so at first Balaam sent them away.
But the Moabites kept offering him bigger and better bribes and Balaam struggled to put into practice what he knew in theory.
When Balaam went wrong, God used his donkey to show him: 'Then God gave speech to the donkey. She said to Balaam: "What have I ever done to you that you have beat me these three times?"... God helped Balaam see what was going on ... Balaam fell to the ground, his face in the dirt ... God 's angel said to him: "... you're getting way ahead of yourself."
Balaam said ..."I have sinned...If you don't like what I'm doing, I'll head back."' (Numbers 22:28 -34 TM)
Doing what you know is right can be hard at times. And when we make a mistake and don't correct it, we end up making another mistake. Ask God if there is something you need to put right today and go sort it out. God may not tell you through a donkey - but He will let you know.
