Search for the truth
'I will not believe it until I ... put my finger where the nails were' John 20:25
We've all met a blagger... You know the 'never let the truth spoil a good story' type! Some people will lie through their teeth to get people believe the ridiculous.
And the story of Jesus coming back to life sounded, well, ridiculous to one of the disciples. What could be more ridiculous than a dead man coming back to life - who's going to believe that? It's not something you see every day is it? And how dare someone start spreading that kind of rumour? How mean and nasty is that?
We're all just trying to come to terms with what's just happened and figure out how we're going to get by without Him. Similar thoughts were probably running through the mind of Thomas.
No matter who told him, he just wouldn't believe Jesus had come back to life again: 'I will not believe it until I ... put my finger where the nails were,' he said. Thomas needed some extra proof-positive that Jesus really had died and come back to life again. Jesus didn't let Thomas down. He turns up and shows His scars, so Thomas can believe.
If you're struggling to believe Jesus is alive and wants to have a friendship with you, don't give up: 'If ... you seek the LORD your God, you will find Him if you look for Him with all your heart and with all your soul' (Deut. 4:29).
