SCARS ON SHOW

''...Jesus ... showed them His hands...'' John 20:19

Scars are very common. Most people have at least one scar on their body. They are a natural part of the healing process and can occur inside and outside the body. Scarring can be very distressing. For some people, it can affect them a great deal. It can feel as if you are being stared at, and if you avoid meeting people as a result of your appearance, it can make you feel isolated.

Jesus had scars after His death on the cross. Two through His hands and one through His side. They were proof of what He'd been through. And that it really was Him. Those scars were the evidence that Thomas needed to believe Jesus had actually come back to life and that this wasn't some impostor just trying it on (read John 20:24-29).

It can be tempting to hide our own scars - especially the scars we carry on the inside. But when we show our scars, people not only see our vulnerability but also God's goodness and mercy through them. Sometimes the most spiritual people are also the most human.

Jesus was totally God yet totally human. He understood what life on earth is like, and the implications of that for Him. Yet He still chose to minister to the rest of His disciples who He loved with those scars on show. He didn't hide them away. Those scars were His testimony.

What now? Bring your wounds to Jesus and ask Him to make you healed, whole and healthy.
