RUNNING ON EMPTY

'Abraham never doubted or questioned God's promise.' Romans 4:20

A car might have a new engine, great body work, smart looking interior... but with no fuel in the tank, no one's going to expect it to get very far. It's the fuel that allows it to reach its destination.

If we want to get ahead in life, we need to spend less time on our outwardly appearance and be more concerned with what's going on inside, making sure the tank of our lives is constantly topped up with the right fuel.

Life often doesn't turn out like we think it will; our plans sometimes fail, we don't always achieve or have the things we wanted. So how do we keep going through disappointment and confusion?

Hebrews 11:1 tells us what makes 'life worth living' is having faith in God: 'Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see.'

There's a dude in the Bible called Abraham, who reached a point in life where the odds were incredibly stacked against him. But he never lost hope, never gave up, he kept going. Why? Because he was full of faith in God: 'Abraham never doubted or questioned God's promise. His faith made him strong, and he gave all the credit to God. Abraham was certain that God could do what he had promised.' We can be certain too. Don't worry about the odds, be fuelled by faith.

What now? Have a scan of Abraham's life story in Genesis 15-21 and then see what the New Testament writers say about him in Romans 4 and Hebrews 11:8-10.
