Ride the Waves (2)
'Peter walked on the water to Jesus' Matthew 14:29
Perhaps you've been there - you're in church, the music's pumpin' the rooms rockin', God's presence is electric and you're up for doing anything and everything God asks you to. You feel God's power inside you - nothing is going to stop you now! But then, moments later, you feel helpless, alone, powerless. You're surrounded by temptation again, doubts creep in and you want to give in or give up.
Peter felt exactly the same way. At three o'clock in the morning on a choppy sea he was totally trusting Jesus, and when Jesus asks Him to walk on water - he does! Moments later though, he's lost the plot. He starts to look at the water and the waves and doubts started creeping in: What do you think you're doing? You can't do that, you can't walk on water, no one can! Look at the size of those waves - they're going to swallow you up!
One minute Peter was doing incredible super-hero stuff; the next he was literally drowning, fighting for his life: 'But when he looked down at the waves churning beneath his feet, he lost his nerve and started to sink. He cried, "Master, save me!" (Matt. 14:30 TM) Did Jesus laugh at him, punish him or get angry with him for messing up? No! 'Jesus didn't hesitate. He reached down and grabbed his hand' (v. 31). Did you get that? 'Jesus didn't hesitate.' Straight away, Jesus helped him back on his feet when he cried for help - and He will do the same for you.
