Rep it Right (2)
'Earn a reputation for living well in God's eyes' Proverbs 3:4
Which are you more bothered about: what your friends think of you, what your family thinks of you, or what God thinks of you? You probably know what the right answer should be, but is what God thinks about you actually most important to you?
When your mates invite you to a drinking session, what do you do? When your boyfriend or girlfriend pressures you to have sex with them, what do you do? When your family is telling you that going to church is for losers, what do you do? Are you saying one thing but then doing another?
The Bible says, 'Never let loyalty and kindness leave you! Tie them around your neck as a reminder. Write them deep within your heart. Then you will find favour with both God and people, and you will earn a good reputation' (Prov. 3: 3-4 TM).
Loyalty and kindness are important character qualities which both involve action as well as attitude. Thoughts and words aren't enough - our lives reveal whether we are truly loyal to God and act in His kindness to everyone.
In Luke 15, you can read Jesus' story of the prodigal son. The older son appears to have the right attitude, staying home to work with his father. But his actions don't match up. Because when the younger son returns. the older son refuses to forgive him and refuses to celebrate his return with his dad. Make sure your actions measure up to your attitude!
