Rep it Right (1)
'Earn a reputation for living well in God's eyes' Proverbs 3:4
You already know that elephants are one of the most powerful land animals in the world. So how do people train them to perform in circuses? The first rule for training an elephant is making it believe that it can't run away.
So elephant trainers will start working with elephants as babies by tying them to heavy-duty steel stakes in the ground. Over and over again, the elephant will try to pull free, but it won't be able to. Eventually it will stop trying to escape and at that point the steel stake can be swapped for any old post in the ground. It can be flimsy as anything - the elephant doesn't know the difference. Simply because it's tied up, the elephant will think it can't escape.
The Bible tells us to, 'Earn a reputation for living well in God's eyes and the eyes of the people.' This means we need to start training ourselves up in our youth and - importantly - we need a 'stake in the ground' to show us where the limits are, the difference between right and wrong for our lives.
That 'stake' is the Word of God. The only way you can become an obedient follower of Jesus is to submit yourself to the authority of the word of God. If you discipline yourself now you will be able to control yourself when difficult times of temptation come your way.
