NO PLACE LIKE HOME

'Lord, through all the generations you have been our home!' Psalm 90:1

What comes to mind when you think of God? Where is He, what's He like? Maybe it's a place, a person, or a feeling. When we think of God, we each have slightly different impressions of Him. That's because we are created differently, so we all know the one true God from our own perspectives. And that's okay.

But there are some ways that God wants us to know Him that don't change. Here's one. John 15.4 says "Live in Me. Make your home in Me..." (TM) We sometimes think of God as a far-off deity to discuss, but God wants us to see Him as the One in whom we "... live and move and have our being..." (Acts 17.28 NIV)

To know God, then, is to be at home with Him every day! If you want to know God like that, you don't need to change your address, but you might need to change your thinking. Think about all the things that home should mean. Acceptance, security, safety. Warmth.

Home should be a special place, where we can kick off our shoes and truly be ourselves. It's God's wish that every person would find Him to be just that. Wherever we are, whatever we face, we can be in that place. It's no surprise that many people come back from spending time with God with a deep sense that everything is going to turn out well - it's because they've been Home.

What Now? What's it like to think about God this way? It might be easy, if you grew up in a house where you felt naturally at ease, or it might not be so easy. Picture a place where you do feel comfortable, sheltered and at rest, not worried about the stresses of the day. Imagine that place as God's presence. Ask Him to be there with you.
