More Than Conquerors (1)
'Thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ...' 2 Corinthians 2:14
Yesterday, we looked at one man's trials and his story of overcoming difficulty and we're going to continue to look at the idea of overcoming or conquering in the next few days. But what does it mean? Well, another shorter word is 'winning'!
Facing difficulties is simply proving true what Jesus said: '...Here on earth, you will have many trials...' (John 16:33).
Don't be duped into thinking that because you're a Christian, you are now immune to problems. That's simply not true. The storms of life blew against both the wise man's and the foolish man's houses. The difference was that the wise man not only heard Jesus' words but put them into practice, and his house stood strong against the storm.
Read it for yourself in Matthew 7:24-27. So what's God's goal? To make you an overcomer, not an escape artist! God's more than able to deliver you, but He's really interested in developing you. Do you ever find yourself reciting Skee-Lo's lyrics: 'I wish I was a little bit taller, I wish I was a baller, I wish I had a rabbit in a hat with a bat and a 64 Impala...'? Do you sit there wishing for everything you haven't been given?
God doesn't make mistakes. In the words of Martine McCutcheon, 'love your tummy' (and everything else about you) but most importantly, remember '...People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart' (1 Samuel. 16:7 NLT). Adopt God's standard, not society's.
