LUCKY DIP?

Want a daily dose of wisdom? Check out the daily horoscopes! Never mind 'What would Jesus do?', ask yourself 'What would Lady Gaga do?' Mother Monster knows more about living today than old hippy JC, right? Face facts, the Bible is old, outdated and it would take like, what, 10,000 years to read through it all? Clearly there is a large dollop of sarcasm in today's intro.
Horoscopes ask us to turn to exploding spheres of gas zillions of miles away for influence on whether you will have a good day or bad day. You can put your faith in that, or you could turn to God, and to learning about how He's acted with humans throughout history - through the Bible, a book that has repeatedly proven helpful in grounding, correcting and inspiring countless people for thousands of years.
The latest celebs may have the odd clever sound bite, but will we be combing the lyrics of pop-stars for life guidance in two thousand years time? True, the Bible is long. But, did you know it is possible to read the entire New Testament in a month by reading nine chapters every day? No more excuses - get stuck into your Bible!
What now? Here's your Bible checklist: 1) Find a translation that floats your boat. 2) Don't use it as a lucky dip - this isn't horoscope territory. 3) Read it regularly but don't have a guilt trip if you miss a day. 4) Pray that God would speak to you.
