'Then David got up...' 2 Samuel 12:20
'I'm sorry, God! How could I have been so stupid, such an idiot? I mean it, I've never been so sorry in my whole life. What have I become? A liar, a cheat, a murderer! Well I'm not moving from this floor, God, I'm refusing to eat. I'm going to lie here slumped in a heap, until you help me! I realise now I'm nothing without you, nothing!
How have I come to this? Where on earth did I get the idea that I was doing was okay?? I'm a wretch, rotten to the core, I stink of sin... Aagh! 'God, don't leave me to my pathetic ways.
Please God, I beg you. I got it wrong God; horribly, tragically, pathetically wrong. I've messed up big time, and now I couldn't be sorrier. Put me straight again, take my soiled heart and clean it. God, do what I can't do. I want a heart that's fully, totally, chasing after you. '
David made earthshaking mistakes in his life: read the story in 2 Samuel 11 and 12. But God didn't leave him trapped in turmoil. The Bible tells us 'David got up...' When he did, God answered him, forgave him and led him on to greater things. God will do the same for you.
What now? Write on a piece of paper all the things you want to say sorry to God for. Then destroy it.
