Keep Your Eye On The Ball

'While I was busy doing something else...' 1 Kings 20:40

There are several ways we can discover that it is dangerous to jump off a ten-story building:

1) you can read about the law of gravity in a book;

2) You can learn from the sad experience of someone else who tried it;

3) You can listen to the wise council of a firefighter or physician who claims it would be 'hazardous to your health';

4) You can jump. Each way provides the information you are seeking; the only difference is the amount of pain involved in gaining that information.

The word 'busy' is used only once in the Bible, by an unknown prophet. It was spoken to King Ahab. God wanted Ahab to learn that He alone is the God over everything. God gave Ahab lots of great ways to learn this important life lesson, but Ahab chooses the hardest way of all and it cost him his life. King Ahab got distracted and became busy doing his own thing; as a result he did the opposite of what God had asked him to do.

Keep your eye on the ball, don't get distracted. The Bible says, 'Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour' (1 Pet. 5:8 NLT).

If Satan can't 'devour' you with a frontal assault, he'll settle for diverting you with things that ultimately don't matter. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, don't be distracted and end up 'busy doing something else.'
