Have Faith
'The person ... trusting Him really lives' Romans 1:17
We all believe in things we can't see: like oxygen! We believe it's there to breathe even though we can't see it. If we can have faith in oxygen, we can have faith in God. As 2 Corinthians 5:7 says, 'we live by faith, not by sight' (NIV).
The bungee jumper hurtles from a great height with faith in the rope to save him from death. We too can have faith that God will save us: John 3:16-17 says 'For God so loved the world that He gave His only son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. God did not send His Son into the world to condemn it, but to save it' (NLT).
We can't see the wind or electricity, but the effects of these make us believe it to be real. In a similar way we can see the effects God makes in people's lives and have the faith to believe He is real. John 4:39 says 'Many ... believed in Him because of the woman's testimony' (NIV).
We can take a piece of paper to a shop, with a promise saying 'pay the bearer on demand the sum of 20 pounds' and have faith it will happen and that new top will be ours (it's called a 20 pound note!)
So we can also read God's word and have faith to believe that He will not go back on any of the promises He has made (over 3000 of them in fact). Hebrews 11:1 says, 'faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see' (NIV).
