GREAT BALLS OF FAITH!
''We walk by faith, not by sight'' 2 Corinthians 5:7
Are you a bit like Asaph sometimes? You're so busy walking by sight rather than faith, not only are you drinking from a bottomless cup of disappointment, you're eyeballing people who spend their lives doing and worshipping the wrong things - and to top the cake off, you've noticed they seem to be enjoying life way more than you. How's that for a cherry!
Asaph walked so much with his eyes of faith shut, that in Psalm 73 he wrote, '...my feet had almost slipped; I had nearly lost my foothold. For I envied the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked' (vv. 2-3 NIV).
Asaph nearly shrugged off God because of his jealousy and envy of what he could see happening for those who didn't follow God. But as the psalm progresses, Asaph grows in faith: 'You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory. Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you.'
He realises any earthly gain is nothing to the guaranteed eternity with God. There really is no accolade, thrill or relationship better than who God is in your life. Why envy others who don't have God? '... those who are far from You will be lost from You forever' (v. 27).
What now? Make some scripture note cards on having faith in the unseen. When things seem too difficult for you or you doubt God, you can feast on His trustworthy word in seconds, wherever you are!
