GOD'S REWARD SYSTEM
'... He will receive his reward' 1 Corinthians 3:14
God must have His favourites. I mean, here's little old you faithfully busting a gut to make youth group happen. Sweating prayers out of your forehead for your unconverted mates. Devotedly out of breath from advancing God's kingdom. And what is God doing? He's got His divine eye on the lazy, miserable, ungrateful kid opposite. The one who's blessed before she's even crawled out of the duvet. Everything's hunky-dory for them. And here you are without so much as an answered prayer to brush your teeth with. You're merely an acquaintance he puts up with and humours when he can be bothered.
A pat on the back for your efforts wouldn't go amiss now and again, huh? Sounds stupid, right? But sometimes we carry that attitude with us. Luke 14:13-14 hints at why we don't always feel a pat on the back: 'When you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.' God always cares when we actively do the right thing. It's just that sometimes the reward will be seen the other side of eternity.
What now? No good deed gets overlooked with God. Repent for your attitude towards a brother or sister who seems to get all the glory. Find a way to love them more.
