Gently Does It (1)
'Gently help make him right again' Galatians 6:1
You see someone do something wrong and you react. Perhaps you 'tutt' and roll your eyes. Maybe you point and laugh unnaturally loud, urging others to do the same. Possibly you shoot them down with verbal abuse. Or you choose the Fistycuffs option, launching in to deck them for their little mishap.
The way you choose to react is bound to be learned behaviour (and learned bad behaviour at that). We're most often copying how parents, friends, teachers have reacted badly to us in the past.
God wants us to copy His style and gives us some great advice: 'If someone in your group does something wrong, you who are spiritual should go to that person and gently help make him right again.' Gently does it.
When we stuff up, we can feel as fragile as glass - gutted, guilty, ashamed. What we need is the gentle approach, not a kick up the backside to get us back on track. First Peter 3:8-9 tells us to 'be agreeable, be sympathetic, be loving, be compassionate, be humble.
That goes for all of you, no exceptions. No retaliation. No sharp-tongued sarcasm. Instead, bless-that's your job, to bless. You'll be a blessing and also get a blessing' (TM).
