Fess Up
'Confess your faults one to another' James 5:16
Sometimes God asks us to do things that can seem stupid or scary, like this for example: 'Confess your faults one to another.' How stupid does that sound? No one in their right mind wants their misdemeanours made front page news! How scary would it be letting someone know the stuff you spend all your time trying to hide?
Why would God ask us to do this? With God there is always a good reason. When we try and hide bad habits and struggles we give them a stronger hold on us. They become harder to stop and difficult to break. But the moment we tell someone it begins to lose its power.
The Bible says, 'Pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up! ... Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves' (Eccl. 4:10-12 NIV). God never intended us to go through life dealing with the tough stuff alone which is why He says, 'Confess your faults one to another and pray one for another, that you may be healed.'
If there's something in your life that you're keeping secret, if you are struggling to break a habit that's trying to break you, talk to someone about it today. But who? Tell who? Someone you can trust, maybe someone who's been through what you're going through, but definitely someone who's compassionate, someone who'll pray with you, someone who'll hold you accountable, someone who'll keep your confidence.
Ask God to help you find the right person and then go confess your faults, and let God heal you.
