Eyes Wide Open

'O God open his eyes and let him see' 2 Kings 6:17

The servant woke to get the morning milk off the doorstep. He stretched, squinted into the first light of sun, and that was when he saw them. Hundreds, thousands even. Each soldier armed. Some were knelt, drawing an aim on the bedroom of the master. Some were peering through tanks. Some hung from the tops of buildings positioning rifles. Helicopters looped around the city, fighter jets broke from the distance.

The king of Aram had heard of Elisha. He was furious that this 'holy' man continued to leak his best strategies to the king of Israel. So this was war, and the first casualty was to be Elisha.

The servant pulled at his master's clothes. He dragged him to the window, ducked his head and carefully pointed to the surrounding troops. Elisha knelt on the spot: 'Lord, there are more on our side than on their side'. Then he stood up in full view of the window, in full view of the sniper's aim, and prayed: 'O God, open his eyes and let him see!'

Immediately, fighter jets made from fire blasted through the skies. Soldiers of the angel-armies fired a thousand prayers like flaming arrows into the opposition. Tanks ablaze with the heavens rode through the clouds.

Often our problem is that we, like the servant, only see the physical problems. We get thrown by money and circumstances and people. Instead we need to learn to 'open our eyes' like Elisha. We need to know that there are many more on our side than those against us.
