EASTER - WHAT'S IT ABOUT? (2)
''By giving Himself completely at the cross, actually dying for you, Christ brought you over to God's side...'' Colossians 1:22
'And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight.' (Colossians 1:21-22 NKJ)
'Hang about Wordsworth, I don't mean to be rude but what did any of that actually mean?' Well 'reconciled' basically means to be made right with someone. Because God is a God of justice, He knows that all our wrong thoughts and actions drive a wedge between us and Him, and He can't just turn a blind eye. But instead of us getting our just desserts, Jesus took the punishment instead.
And that is so you can have an unbroken, close, intimate friendship with Him. And we're also redeemed. 'Okay jargon king, explain yourself?' 'Redeemed' means you've personally been bought back, like a hostage that's been retrieved for a huge sum of money. But rather than money, God financed it all with His own son. On top of that, God now sees you as His son, or daughter!
And as if all that wasn't good enough, He has forgiven you of all your sin; your sin debt that's been mounting up. He slapped a 'paid in full' next to it! C'est fini! Finito! Fertig! End of!
What now? Take some time this weekend to read Romans 3:21-28 and Colossians 1:15-23 and ask God to help you understand what Jesus has done for you.
