DECISIONS (2) - UNKNOWN TERRITORY
'...GOD... is with you every step you take' Joshua 1:9
Starting a new school, heading off for college, moving to a university, beginning a new job; these are times when decisions get trickier. We're in new territory, covering unknown ground.
Situations like these can make us anxious because fear of the unknown creeps into every choice we make. Joshua knew exactly what that felt like. Born and raised in the wilderness, God asked him to go somewhere he'd never been or experienced before. His leader Moses had died and he had no one around who knew how to help him or what to do. Every day brought a new unknown, a new experience, a new obstacle to overcome. How would he get through this?
God takes him aside for a chat and reminds Him that: '...I'll be with you. I won't give up on you; I won't leave you. Strength! Courage! ...give it everything you have, heart and soul...don't get off track, either left or right, so as to make sure you get to where you're going. And don't for a minute let this book... [The Bible]...be out of mind...meditate on it day and night, making sure you practice everything written in it... then you'll succeed.
Haven't I commanded you? Strength! Courage! Don't be timid; don't get discouraged. God, your God, is with you every step you take.' (Joshua 1: 5-9 TM).
And God says the same to us today. What now? Go for a walk and as you take each step, remind yourself of Joshua 1:9. Think about some of the places you go each day and what it means to have God there with you.
