Dad the Deity (3)

'For He is always thinking about you' 1 Peter 5:7

The noise is just too much to bear! And the constant stream of questions. There's too much running - one of them is bound to fall over and there's sure to be tears. It's just too hard to listen, let alone think! How on earth can anyone be expected to concentrate on a sermon with all this calling out and joining in and giggling, chitter-chatter. Enough is enough - it's time to get the kids out! That's just an educated guess about what it would have been like the day the disciples tried to shoo away the children from Jesus; read Luke 18:15-17 for the scene as it is described in the Bible.

But be sure about one thing, Jesus is quick to scold the disciples for even thinking this kind of thing. 'Let the children come', He says as He makes time for their games and stories. 'The kingdom belongs to these', He says, one child high on His shoulders, another under His feet. The story shows that Jesus isn't just sermons from the pulpit; He's also fun. He can let loose with the kids; He makes time for the everyday. Through seeing Jesus break the heavy schedule to make time for the kids, we learn that God has lots of time for people. We learn that God the Father loves fun.

Too many frocks and incense can leave us thinking Christianity is a serious business; but Jesus shows our loving Father loves the silly games and runny noses.
