Cue the Ruth reels (3)
'So Boaz took Ruth and she became his wife' Ruth 4:13
Any chick-flick worth its lipstick carries plenty of twists and turns. 'Will they/won't they?' is dragged out for a good eighty minutes worth of celluloid and thirty minutes worth of soundtrack. Magically, with two minutes to spare to the next showing, all plotlines are neatly tied together and, hey presto,
Shakira is warbling about 'love' over scenes of snuggling in the sunset. Maybe, God is a fan of J.Lo movies or something, but often when it comes to fulfilling promises in our lives, He allows the 'will it/won't it' bit to happen for a good chunk of our story, and just when you think it won't, He takes two minutes to wrap up all the loose ends. Suddenly, hey presto, promise fulfilled.
Naomi teaches the importance of timing, 'Do not make yourself known to the man until...' (Ruth 3:3 NKJ). Ruth had waited a long time for this moment; now she had to learn to be quiet because the person God planned to bless her through was sleeping.
It's hard to be all keyed up about something nobody else is excited about; you want to get them excited too. But sometimes God says, 'Wait'. We need to stop trying to make things happen before their time.
'The vision is yet for an appointed time ... wait for it; because it will surely come' (Hab. 2:3 NKJ). God may not respond when you think He should, but He will move before the end credits.
