Body double

'He leads me in the paths of righteousness' Psalm 23:3

If God is pure and free of sin and we're filthy and caked in sin, how is it that God allows us to grubby up his presence with our dirt? Surely it's like letting a greasy mechanic on to your brand new, clean white carpet.

Enter stage-left, Jesus - He's the Good Shepherd who gave His life for the sheep. It's the great clean up. All the mess we made, all the grime and dirt of our sin, got soaked up by Jesus when He hung on the cross. Because of the cross, God looks at us as if we're sparkling clean and white, as if we've never done any wrong.

We're made right with God through Christ. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life - He leads us in the paths of righteousness. No one can get to God without getting scrubbed up through Jesus. Think about it in terms of a stuntman or body double.

You know, when the Hollywood heartthrob emerges from a towering inferno unscathed? He's been shot at, punched, kicked, jumped through windows, leaped from exploding cars, and still he emerges with barely a hair out of place. That's because he hasn't done the dirty work.

A well trained stuntman takes the knocks and bruises whilst the actor does nothing (except take the credit).

The reason you can approach God without a scratch on your face is that Jesus took the knocks and bruises for you. So give him the credit.
