Becoming God's Friend (2)
'I have called you friends' John 15:15
When the producers of Friends first came up with the concept for the show, they insisted that all six characters had equal-sized parts. They didn't want any single character to get more of the limelight than any other. This is how it was from the beginning and right to the end. We may each have had our favourite character, but we ended up loving something about them all.
The actors were the same: they insisted they were entered equally into awards, they negotiated their salaries together and appeared in interviews and on magazine covers together. This resulted in a unique relationship in show business: the cast members became best friends off screen too. Once Friends was finished they all talked separately about feeling like they had experienced a real sense of family. They were in it together.
In a similar way Jesus wants to become friends with you, best friends, in it together. He doesn't choose special favourites - each one of us is precious to Him. Jesus said, 'I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.'
Being friends with Jesus means He lets you in on what's going on, treats us all the same. The question is, are you going to return the friendship?
