Becoming God's Friend (1)
'I have called you friends' John 15:15
During the 1990s and early 2000s, American TV sitcom Friends put together six unlikely people who the world loved to watch.
After ten series and a staggering 236 episodes, we felt we knew them as if they were our own friends. Remember them?
Rachel: the well-heeled, fashion-mad, cheerleader-type. Monica: Rachel's best friend from high school, mother hen, and OCD clean freak. Phoebe: the ditzy blonde who was by-day a masseuse and by-night an unconventional singer-songwriter. Joey: the budding actor with the worst lines on daytime TV and a habit for missing the point. Chandler: the wisecracking joker, always ready with a whip-smart one-liner. And Ross: with a science job no one really understands... and a pet monkey!
They all had their quirks which had us rolling around in fits of giggles every Friday night. And sometimes we wondered how on earth such a mixed bunch of people could enjoy living life across the hall from one another. But despite all of their differences, what mattered most to this group was their friendship - a friendship that endured through good times and bad.
Jesus told His disciples, 'I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.' Like our six friends at Central Perk, the disciples were a group of odd-bods but Jesus chose to be their friend. He wants to be your friend too. Will you accept?
