Activity vs Intimacy
'The Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you.' JOHN 16:15
Activity can never replace intimacy. There are loads of people in your life that you do different things with; shopping, footie, even maybe homework every now and again! God doesn't want to be just like a mate you hang about with, God wants to be as close to you as the hairs on the back of your neck and the lines in the palms of your hands. And he wants you to be in His will and on His wavelength.
So how can this become a reality for you today? Paul gives us an answer in 1 Corinthians 2, verse 14, 'The unspiritual self, just as it is by nature, can't receive the gifts of God's Spirit.' (TM) He goes on to say that the things of God are 'silliness' to that part of us. So getting to a place of more intimacy with God means doing stuff that unlocks a deeper part of our identity. This is why Christians pray, worship and sometimes even skip meals (fasting). These are just some of the ways God has made available to get around the 'unspiritual' part of us to connect more directly with God.
Intimacy of any kind is rare today, true intimacy that is, not the intimacy you can get round the back of the disco after a few White Lightnings. But spiritual intimacy, that's something really, really special and is worth giving everything to find.
