Be patient, it'll happen in God's time!
'Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him.' PSALM 37:7
The old saying, 'You can't always have what you want,' isn't necessarily true. When you 'Delight yourself in the Lord...he will give you the desires of your heart' (Psalm 37:4 NIV).
'Excellent' you're thinking, 'so when's my Nintendo Wii arriving?' Bad news... that's not what it means! You see, receiving the 'desires of our heart' isn't a reward for being good; it's much deeper than that. The verse actually has a secret double meaning! You see when we 'delight ourselves in the Lord' (hang out with Him, love Him, serve Him and generally realise what an awesome God He is), then a weird thing happens; His desires become our desires!
Suddenly we want our friends to know Him the way we do. We want to see the local 'emo' kids learn what life's about and be happy. We want to see the poor made rich, the sick made healthy, the downright miserable people living life to the max. Suddenly He has literally given us our desires, and when what we want is also what He wants, of course we're going to receive them! Clever double meaning, eh!
One of the frustrating things about this verse is that there's no time limit. We don't know when we will see them. Sometimes we just need to be faithful and trust that we will get those desires in the right time; His time. So be patient!
