"For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have more than enough. But from the one who does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. Matthew 25:29 HCSB

On the first read-through, today’s verse seems inherently unfair. Take from the poor and give to the rich? Really?

Well, no. What today’s verse refers to is using our gifts wisely. Go back and read the passage from which it was taken (Matthew 25:14-30). The master of the house entrusts his servants with a portion of his riches. The wise servants use what they have to grow the riches, but the lazy servant does nothing with what he’s been given. When the master returns, each servant gives an account of how he’s used his gifts for the master’s benefit.

God has given each of us gifts to use for His glory. To some, He’s given speaking abilities or artistic talent or a magnetic personality. Others might have material wealth to provide for the needs of others. It doesn’t matter what the gift is, if we aren’t using it for God’s glory, we might as well bury it in the ground.

In the end, we’ll have to answer our Master for how we’ve used His gifts. Will He say well done?

Prayer: Lord, help me use my gift, talents, and abilities for Your glory instead of burying them in my selfish ambitions.
