Wisdom and meaning of Jesus washing disciples feet.....

God Bless: Long title. Couldn't seem to condense the title. I have always wanted to understand the passages of Jesus washing His disciples feet. Does anyone have the Wisdom and understands this passage in the life of Christ. John 13:6He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, "Lord, are you going to wash my feet?"

7Jesus replied, "You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.
I found a few other references, one quite well known in the New Testament
Luke 7:and as she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them.
There was also a passage in Judges 19:So he took him into his house and fed his donkeys. After they had washed their feet, they had something to eat and drink.

It is later, yet I do not understand and I ponder this often. If anyone could help me out, I would be grateful. May the Lord bless all those that truly seek Him. Amenixie :rose:

How are you?
I'll take a look at the passage and see what revelation comes to mind. The thing is I never took the time to ponder on that verse. I use to think that Jesus wanted to illustrate the fact that the heart of God' kingdom is in service.
Remmember the time He rebuked the disciples who were arguing about who shall be greater than the other when Jesus establishes His reign?
Also, this passage from as far as I can remember depicts Christ humility.
He is the King of kings and He did not despise watching the feet of his disciples. God is not about titles and position, for in His Kingdom, the first shall be the last and the last shall be the first.

I'll meditate on that passage and let you know of my findings.

Jesus the humility itself

Philipians 2: 1-11 "Eventhough He was in the form of God he did not count himself equal to God but humbled himself to be man..." Jesus becoming man is a great act of humility and again here in John's gospel Jesus humbling himself to be a slave to wash the feet of his appostles....in Jewish society only a slave washed the feet of his master and servants had some rights in the house but not slaves. Yes Jesus wants us to be humble in every way. "If I your master and Lord washed your feet how much more you need to wash the feet of one another...".

God bless you all, out of my viewpoint I believe Jesus showed an act of love, what is love you may ask? Well, Jesus told us that the greatest act of love is if a friend dies for his friends, I believe the same applies here.

God is love, love is sacrifice. Love is always the lesser, not the most. God showed us unmatched, uncomparable love by sending Jesus to die for our sins, Jesus showed us love by teaching us, guiding us and keeping to His promises.

The washing of the feet is to me an act of love, it's a sacrifice, to show that we should be like our God.

John 15:13
Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.

Pixie, Jesus washing the disciples feet was an act of servanthood and love. In biblical times the roads were dusty and the people wore basic sandals on their feet, not shoes like we have today. Their feet would be a lot dirtier than most peoples today. Perhaps someone with more knowledge of what it was like in biblical times could elaborate on this for you.
