why does God put us through hard times? A person i know is about to lose alot and i wonder.

Are you 100% positive that it is GOD? What about our own actions? What about those that persecute us or hurt us in some way that it causes serious infliction? We've likely done the same to others haven't we? I say that you should pray for your friend and show them this Scripture to comfort them.

GOD's grace is sufficient...

2 Corinthians 12:9-11

9 And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Test of faith produces patience...

James 1:2-4

Profiting from Trials

2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.

1 Peter 1:6-8

6 In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, 7 that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, 8 whom having not seen[a] you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory,

Amen....Indeed....Yes.

We, and that includes myself, we need to remember that at all times, and in all places and situations God loves us. It is so easy, so natural I guess to think that because things are getting tight, our relationship with the lOrd is at fault. But not at all, and never. "Like as a Father has compassion, and cares for his children, so the Lord has compassion, and cares for us".........at all times.

Many questions remain about the situation your friend is in. For instance, is your friend the cause or the victim in this matter? As Chad said, we all must accept the consequences of our actions.

As to what is being lost, Is it family, or material possessions?

In my own life, my wife and I have made many big mistakes. My drinking cost me a relationship with my daughter. I've been sober 23 years, but that relationship has not yet healed. Our bad financial decisions have left us financially needy (we can't even afford an automobile).

But, we are finding that God is truly meeting our needs as Scripture says He will and my wife and I are closer now than we've ever been in 39 years of marriage.

just Me...

i think God puts us through hard times to teach us s-thing in our relationship with Him.Only us can find what this"something" represents and decide our next actions!Me,for example,i'm learning "patience"!
sorry if i bouthered sharing my opinion

It's to draw us closer to Him. If we lived comfortably all the time, why would we need Him? I have been through a lot, and I don't like what I've been through, especially when I'm there. But the more I go through with the Lord, the more I am able to relax in Him and realize how much I can trust Him. Then when the difficult time has passed, the Lord shows me how He was there with me. The hard times are also there so we can comfort others.

2 Corinthians 1:4 Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.

I feel it is a learning tool that God uses, we have to learn to turn to him in our hour of need, he is trying to teach us that we need him in our lives in bad times as well as good, it's the hard times that we indure with him that makes us appreciate the good. Always trust our Lord, he will never fail you. When reading about people going through rough, hard times, makes me remember old Job and the trials he went through. Tell your friend to read about Job and see if he is having a worse time than Job had, and then remember to tell your friend to keep his faith and when things look down, just look up.

One more thing to consider is that God does not waste any "hurts"; as He allow us to go through them (by giving us the needed strenght), God will also use these 'hurts" to bless and encourage others who might go through similar situations in the future.
