Why would Jesus say it, if He didn't mean it?

Here's a QUESTION for all of you.

Why would Jesus say it, if He didn't mean it?

Addressing the crowds and his disciples Jesus said,
2 'The scribes and the Pharisees occupy the chair of Moses.
3 You must therefore do and observe what they tell you; but do not be guided by what they do, since they do not practise what they preach.
4 They tie up heavy burdens and lay them on people's shoulders, but will they lift a finger to move them? Not they!
5 Everything they do is done to attract attention, like wearing broader headbands and longer tassels,
6 like wanting to take the place of honour at banquets and the front seats in the synagogues,
7 being greeted respectfully in the market squares and having people call them Rabbi.
* 8 'You, however, must not allow yourselves to be called Rabbi, since you have only one Master, and you are all brothers.
* 9 You must call no one on earth your father, since you have only one Father, and he is in heaven.
* 10 Nor must you allow yourselves to be called teachers, for you have only one Teacher, the Christ.

We are all raised up to call our parents father & mother. Our coulture is known to celibrate Father's Day & Mother's Day.

But is it right?

I can't help but wonder, are we doing wrong in Jesus eyes by doing these things?

Because Jesus also siad in
John 14:15, 21, 23-24

"If you love Me, keep My commandments."

He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him."

"If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. ''

"He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father's who sent Me."

I'm pretty sure Jesus is talking about not calling someone your father in a spiritual sense.
Someone who is your leader in the faith.
Only God is our Father spiritualy.
That is what i heard Pastors mention in the past.

I believe what Jesus is making a point of here in the context of this scripture, is that all knowledge/wisdom/discernment/power is from the Father above. And not from any
self-realization/quantum moment of intellectual self-discovery.

Anyone who would refer to themselves, and not readily acknowledge from where their wisdom/discernment/knowledge/power is from, is proud. And we know God opposes the proud.

We know Jesus came to fullfil the scriptures, and not to abolish them.
In the 10 commandments then, hounoring your father and mother still apply.

My .02 cents.:shade:

First of all, I thank you both for the replies, and I will think it over & give your answers a lot of thought.

I agree we should hounor our parents. It's just sometimes I get this notion that I should be using their names instead of.

Good consideration Sis.

The distiction in calling anyone by their first name is that you hold an opinion of them as your equal.

Yes they are, in the grand scheme of the human existance.
No, on that they hold the very reason to your existance.

It is certainly your choice.

All the best *genesis,

Deuteronomy 32:4

He is the Rock, His work is perfect; For all His ways are justice, A God of truth and without injustice; Righteouse and upright is He.'

I believe you have discovered that which your heart already knows.

You have quoted those who in Jesus day missed the point of His saving ministry....getting bound up in this and that

Salvation is all about Jesus........

He that drinketh of the water that I shall give.......will never thirst again. (Jesus)

Thank you all on all your answers on this topic. They are very helpful.

May your walk with The Almighty GOD & Christ Jesus, always be a Blessed One!
