The only time I would think a Christian needs to fear God is when they are guilty of false teaching. Leading the lost astray.
As such, how is it that so many who know the bible, can cherry pick scriptures and contrive wicked nuggets of lies about God without being terrified of Him?
The prophets who knew God better then you and I had this to say of Him:
1. He is good - Psalm 136:1
2. He is just / He loves justice - Isa 61:8, Isa 30:18
3. He is righteous in all His ways - Psalm 145:17
4. He is light with no darkness in Him - 1 John 1:5
5. He is wise - Rom 16:27
When you have a belief that a reasonably sane person can argue does not tick all these blocks, should you not re-evaluate your belief and keep quiet until you have?
I would be terrified of God if I was teaching the lost that God is anything but loving and just. Scripture is pretty clear on who God is and why we need to fear Him.
Pro 9:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.
Pro 8:13 To fear the Lord is to hate evil.
Pro 15:16 Better a little with the fear of the Lord than great wealth with turmoil.
Matt 10:28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.
Job 31:23 For I dreaded destruction from God, and for fear of his splendor I could not do such things.
2 Pet 2:1 But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction.
Matt 18:16 If anyone causes one of these little ones, those who believe in me, to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.
