Why does the media try to discredit Christianity?

Time and again the media claim that they have made startling discoveries about Christianity. To the common people who have not been educated in the history of Christianity, such presentations seem like eye openers, because, the presentations have scholarly pretenses. In reality, they are full of false information, unrealistic speculations and fiction. The De Vinci code was history mixed with fiction that made fiction appear like real history. Judas' Gospel, that were written by Gnostics (who were at odds with Christians) long after the real Gospels were written, had been discredited by scholars a long ago; yet it resurfaced as some new discovery in the media. More recently, they took an archeological findings of the early nineteen eighties, in which grave of a Jewish family was discovered, and tried to imply that it was the grave of Jesus and his family; although none of his family members lived in Jerusalem (where the grave was discovered) and the chief archeologist of the excavation found no connection between Jesus and the grave.

The media is anti-Christian, because, they are opposed to Christian teachings. Christianity teaches about unconditional love, in which, Christians, like Jesus, are called to love their enemies and compensate for the offenses of their offenders by sacrificing their own interest. Christians are also called to protect every human life, including those in the fetal and embryonic stages, and respect marital union as holy, permanent and life-giving. Christians, therefore, oppose contraception, artificial reproductive techniques, destruction of embryo for any reason, euthanasia, divorce, fornication, sexual immorality and perversities, gay union, and self-interest. The media, which espouses all these things, therefore, does not like Christianity. To them, Jesus is the stumbling block, because, in Jesus the reality of God, as pure, sacrificial, all forgiving is revealed. Jesus, therefore, is their prime target.

I think the media tends to support worldly ideas, compromise, and taking the easy way. It also supports those issues that glorify self and personal choice while resisting the idea that there should be any requirement on behavior that requires self denial or control or any acceptance of rules that acknowledge a higher power or purpose.

Is it really a surprise that the media would play up or emphasize a story that tends to discredit the author of the higher power, Jesus? I think not.

John 15:20
Remember the word that I said to you, ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My word, they will keep yours also.

Let's also keep this in mind when it comes to the world: if it sells, its profit $$$

You're quite right Chad. That is the biblical reminder to all of us that we must expect to be persecuted because Christ was.

The other thing I should have pointed out is that Secular Humanism pervades our society, especially in our media. The bible tells us clearly that the ways and wisdom of this world are foolishness before God. There are many such references to this. I will include only a few of them below.

1 Cor 1:18

18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness ; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
KJV

1 Cor 1:19-21

19 For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.

20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
KJV

Prov 9:6

6 Forsake the foolish , and live; and go in the way of understanding.
KJV

Prov 10:14

14 Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.
KJV

Prov 14:12

12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
KJV

Prov 16:25

25 There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
KJV

The reason Christianity is targeted (and not other religions) is that it is the truth!

The Gospel is an offense. 1 Peter 2:7-8

"....knowing first of all that scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own sinful desires. They will say, 'Where is the promise of his coming?'... " 2 Peter 3:3-4

Hello sister ,
TRUTH
I would agree with that too . The Word is the Truth . Jesus is the Truth . HE is the WAY !

One who has experienced Jesus will go on believing in HIM .No doubts about that .

accountable!

the brass tax is that if anyone aknowledges Jesus as Lord, and the bible to be accurate, they are accountable to God according to His standards. Holiness. the same can be said of atheist.

Dear Steve1979

All of mankind is accountable to God our creator, whether we believe in Him or not. For all who acknowledge Christ as their Lord and Saviour there will be the joy of everlasting life with Him in heaven. All other Non-believers are lost.

All are accountable to God according to His standards......

amen

amen to that deaconbob, i didn't word that quite correctly. the reason there is such a backlash in the media and elsewhere, considering the validity of christianity is that they do not want to be accountable to God even though they are. if they do accept the truth they must accept God's standard of holiness in the same. sorry, and thanks for the correction brother.

Now you have it stated with biblical correctness too Steve. It's very important for us to be as good a witness to others as we can be always.

I didn't seek to correct Steve, simply clarify the witness

God Bless You brother

Re: Why does the media try to discredit the church?

The main reason why radio and televsion news people (as well as the entire entertainment industry) are anti-Christian, to me, is simple: their professions are largely egocentric, whereas Christianity, by design, is centered on Christ.

Christianity is a threat to their self-absorbed ideology. Basically, they can't worship themselves and God, so they've turned their backs on God and, to justify that decision, they work hard to discredit Jesus and his church. Its the old axiom that if you can't rise above them, you try to pull them down to your level.

If nothing else the ossiary that they claim belongs to Jesus and his wife and children is dated very reliably to 1bc. That would mean that Jesus was at most 2 or 3 years old when He, His wife and children were buried. I somehow find that a toddler was married and had kids an even bigger miracle than God incarnate rising from the dead.
