IF (& I mean if) I remember my Catholic upbringing the reason they are called father is that they are a substitute for the Heavenly Father. I myself can not go with that. I call no man Father except my real Dad (& then I call him Dad;-). That relationship charges an Earthly Dad with a sacred duty that is as close to sacred as the relationship between God & me as his son.
