The High and Lofty One who Inhabits Eternity, whose name is Holy Isaiah 57: 15,RSV
God is Holy. That is both his Name and His Nature. A number of features are also implied in this attribute of Holiness. Gods Holiness involves His Divinity. This is what makes Him God and distinguishes Him from heathen idols, or ethnic deities, it is the fact that God is Holy.
"To whom then will you compare me, that I should be like him? says the Holy One". Isa 40: 25
God's Holiness suggest's His Purity. The root meaning from which this old testament word is derived may also mean brightness. It implies the intensity of God's goodness, and His profound abhorance of sin. He is "of purer eyes than to behold evil" Hab 1: 13
Gods Holiness indicates His separation from all else. He is one apart. He is altogether different from any other form of being. He is the unapproachable, the incomparable, the wholly other, standing in utter contrast to man. He alone is entirely true; righteous merciful and loving.
This is the God with whom we have to do. This is the God we worship and adore. This is the God who confronts us now and makes His claim upon us. This is the God who requires that His people should reflect His Holiness. This is the God who will supply our need from his immeasurable fullness. This God is our God. And we need to make sure that we are unreservedly His.
