Who Is the Lord?

And Pharaoh said, "Who is the Lord?"
— Exodus 5:2

Who is God? Thousands of years ago the Pharaoh of Egypt asked a question that is still being asked by many.

It was, " 'Who is the Lord, that I should obey His voice to let Israel go? I do not know the Lord, nor will I let Israel go' " (Exodus 5:2).

I think that by the time Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt, Pharaoh had a better understanding of who exactly God is.

"Who is God?" is not an easy question to answer, because we are trying to grasp the infinite with the finite. We are trying to grasp something far beyond our mental capacity.

I have often said that if God were small enough for our minds, He wouldn't be big enough for our needs.

Until the day we see Him face to face, there are things about God we are never going to completely understand. For instance, I believe that God is holy, but I don't understand everything about His holiness. I also believe God is a triune being—He is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. But that is hard for us to grasp.

The apostle Paul put it clearly when he said, "For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known" (1 Corinthians 13:12).

So yes, there is coming a day when it will all make sense. At the same time, though, with the help of the Holy Spirit, there are many things that we can and should know and grasp about God. After all, knowing what God is like is foundational to knowing God Himself.

Knowing God and making Him known is the essence of being a Christian.

Oh brother Ncdataman, This has to be one of my all time, so far, favorite verse in all of God's Bible.

It does my heart good to see someone else quote it, It makes me happy and I pray that others discover it also.

This will be our most miraculous moment; yes it is the essence of our hope in glory and the result of our salvation, being able to see God face to face because of our perfect state..." but when the perfect comes, the imperfect will pass away" (1 Corinthians 13:10)

Even Moses, when he ask God to reveal His glory (perfection), God only allowed Moses to see His back side, because no man (mortal, imperfect) can see His face and live ( found at Exodus 33: 18-23)

Everything else that occurs in this life, (good or bad) pales in comparison to our glorification in the presence of God. I think this one of the things that God is refering to when he gives us Roman 8: 28.

Praise God for what He has provided for us through His Son Jesus Christ!

And thank you for a wonderful post!
