“I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.” John 16:12 ESV

Who told Paul, James, Peter, John, and Jude how to write the twenty-one Epistles and the Revelation to John? Jesus Himself said He wanted to tell them so much more than they could bear right before His arrest, beatings, and crucifixion. That’s why what Jesus says immediately after today’s key verse is so good.

In John 16:13, Jesus says, “When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.”

In John 16:14-15, Jesus goes on to say, “He (the Spirit) will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.”

In other words, just as Jesus, God’s Son, said what the Father told Him to say, so the Holy Spirit would say what the Father and Son told Him to say. The three members of the Trinity are always perfectly in sync. That’s why it isn’t hard to trust what you read in the New Testament.

Prayer: Lord, You said it. I gladly believe it with my whole heart!
