Peter exclaimed, "Lord, it's wonderful for us to be here! If you want, I'll make three shelters as memorials--one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah." But even as he spoke, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, "This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy. Listen to him." Matthew 17:4-5 NLT
Peter thought he had a great plan for capitalizing on the fantastic revelation of Jesus’ divinity. If only he could properly promote it with three shelters so that people could show up and worship Jesus, he could ensure that everyone knew about this vision. Yet God the Father said from a cloud that Peter wasn’t in charge here. It was his job to listen to God’s dearly loved Son—full stop.
Perhaps you have some plans in mind that you need to place before God in prayer. It’s possible that you may even need to put everything on hold for a time of listening. Even if you’ve meant well in setting up your plans and even if you’ve started out with good motives, the most important matter is whether you’ve listened to God’s beloved Son. It’s possible that Jesus may have very different plans from your own—plans that could end up being for your great benefit and for the blessing of many.
Prayer: Jesus, help me to wait and listen, even when my own plans appear perfect.
